Graphs test answers: worked solutions

Question 1 – Favorite pets [3 pts]

  1. Cat: 3 stars and a half star. \(12 + 2 = 14\). 14 students.
  2. \(24 – 10 = 14\). 14 more students.
  3. \(24 + 14 + 10 + 18 = 66\). 66 students.

Scoring: 1 point for each part.

Question 2 – Hot chocolate [3 pts]

  1. 60 cups.
  2. Tuesday is 45 and Thursday is 25: \(45 – 25 = 20\). 20 more cups.
  3. \(30 + 45 + 60 + 25 = 160\). 160 cups.

Scoring: 1 point for each part.

Question 3 – Measure the strip [2 pts]

  1. The strip ends at the first short mark after 5: \(5\frac{1}{4}\) inches.
  2. \(5\frac{1}{4} + \frac{1}{4} = 5\frac{2}{4}\), which is \(5\frac{1}{2}\) inches.

Scoring: 1 point for each part.

Question 4 – Bean plants [2 pts]

  1. Two Xs are above 2: 2 seedlings.
  2. Lengths less than 2 are \(1\frac{1}{2}\) and \(1\frac{3}{4}\): 2 seedlings.

Scoring: 1 point for each part.

Question 5 – Club members [3 pts]

Draw one bar for each club. The heights are 20, 35, 15, and 30 on a scale that counts by 5.

Scoring: 1 point for a title and labels. 1 point for a scale that counts by 5. 1 point for four correct bars.

Question 6 – Stars for students [2 pts]

  1. \(60 \div 10 = 6\). 6 stars.

Scoring: 1 point for each part.

Question 7 – Bakery sales [2 pts]

  1. Saturday: \(24 + 3 = 27\). Sunday: \(3 \times 6 = 18\). \(27 – 18 = 9\). 9 more muffins.
  2. \(27 + 18 = 45\). 45 muffins.

Scoring: 1 point for each part.

Question 8 – Pencil stubs [3 pts]

Draw a number line from 2 to 4 in fourths and put one X for each length.
