Exercise 3 – Sum of squares
Exercise 4 – Double angle values
Exercise 5 – Exact sine of 15 degrees
Find the exact value of \(\sin15^{\circ}\) by writing \(15^{\circ}=45^{\circ}-30^{\circ}\).
Exercise 6 – Exact cosine of 15 degrees
Exercise 7 – Tangent sum
Exercise 8 – Shift identity
Use the sum formula to show \(\sin\left(x+\frac{\pi}{2}\right)=\cos x\).
Exercise 9 – Verify a square
Exercise 10 – Verify with fractions
Exercises 11 and up
Exercise 11 – Verify tangent plus cotangent
Exercise 12 – Half-angle power
Exercise 13 – Cosine double angle from sine
Exercise 14 – Solve with a double angle
Solve \(\sin2x=\sin x\) for \(0\le x< 2\pi\).
Exercise 15 – Solve cos 2x = cos x
Exercise 16 – Use Pythagorean to solve
Exercise 17 – Projectile range
A ball launched at \(v=88\) ft/s with angle \(\theta\) travels \(R=\frac{v^{2}\sin2\theta}{32}\) feet. Find \(R\) for \(\theta=30^{\circ}\) and \(\theta=45^{\circ}\), to the nearest foot.
Exercise 18 – Electrical amplitude
Exercise 19 – Sum of two angles
Acute angles \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\) satisfy \(\sin\alpha=\frac{5}{13}\) and \(\cos\beta=\frac45\). Find \(\sin(\alpha+\beta)\) and \(\cos(\alpha+\beta)\).
Exercise 20 – Prove a triple angle
Key facts behind this trig identities worksheet
- sin^2 x + cos^2 x = 1 and 1 + tan^2 x = 1/cos^2 x.
- tan x = sin x / cos x; csc, sec, cot are reciprocals of sin, cos, tan.
- sin(A + B) = sin A cos B + cos A sin B; cos(A + B) = cos A cos B – sin A sin B.
- sin 2A = 2 sin A cos A; cos 2A = cos^2 A – sin^2 A = 1 – 2 sin^2 A = 2 cos^2 A – 1.
- To verify an identity, work on one side only until it matches the other.
