Area perimeter worksheet (4th Grade) – first page of the printable PDF

These 20 problems practice finding the area and perimeter of rectangles and squares, and finding a missing side. They match Common Core 4.MD.A.3. Start with counting squares and using the formulas.

The last six problems are real-world word problems about gardens, bedrooms, posters, patios, and a dog pen. Write the correct units, such as feet or square feet.

Key facts behind this area perimeter worksheet

Key facts
  • Area of a rectangle = length × width, measured in square units.
  • Perimeter of a rectangle = 2 × length + 2 × width, measured in plain units.
  • A square is a rectangle whose four sides are equal.
  • If you know the area and one side, divide to find the other side.
  • Area tells how much to cover; perimeter tells how far around.
