Distributive property: 6 × 47 = 6 × 40 + 6 × 7.
A 2-digit by 2-digit problem has four partial products in an area model.
For multiples of 10, multiply the basic facts and attach all the zeros: 30 × 40 = 1,200.
Estimate first by rounding to check that the product makes sense.
