4th Grade Measurement Units and Conversions Worksheet (PDF)

4th Grade math worksheet: Measurement Units and Conversions – Maths PDF

These 20 problems practice changing larger units into smaller units: kilometers to meters, kilograms to grams, liters to milliliters, pounds to ounces, and hours to minutes. The skills match Common Core 4.MD.A.1 and 4.MD.A.2.

The first problems are quick conversions. The last six are word problems about trails, milk, movies, backpacks, ribbon, and baking.

Grade 4 · Common Core State Standards: 4.MD.A.1, 4.MD.A.2

Exercise 1 – Kilometers to meters

Convert \(4\text{ km}\) to meters.

Exercise 2 – Meters to centimeters

Convert \(7\text{ m}\) to centimeters.

Exercise 3 – Kilograms to grams

Look at the blocks. Convert \(3\text{ kg}\) to grams.

1,000 g1,000 g1,000 g3 kg = ?
Each block is 1 kg = 1,000 g.

Exercise 4 – Liters to milliliters

Convert \(5\text{ L}\) to milliliters.

Exercise 5 – Pounds to ounces

Convert \(2\text{ lb}\) to ounces.

Exercise 6 – Hours to minutes

Use the double number line to find how many minutes are in \(3\text{ hr}\).

hours01234minutes060120180240
Hours on top, minutes on the bottom.

Exercise 7 – Minutes to seconds

Convert \(5\text{ min}\) to seconds.

Exercise 8 – Mixed length

Write \(2\text{ m } 35\text{ cm}\) as centimeters.

Exercise 9 – Fill the conversion table

Complete the table.

Kilograms Grams
1 ?
2 ?
6 ?
8 ?

Exercise 10 – Compare liquid volumes

Compare the two jars. Write <, >, or = in place of the question mark: \(2\text{ L} \; ? \; 2{,}500\text{ mL}\)

Jar A: 2 LJar B: 2,500 mL0 L1 L2 L3 L
Jar A and Jar B drawn on the same scale.

Exercise 11 – Hours and minutes

Write \(3\text{ hr } 20\text{ min}\) as minutes.

Exercise 12 – Pounds and ounces

Write \(4\text{ lb } 6\text{ oz}\) as ounces.

Exercise 13 – Minutes and seconds

Write \(2\text{ min } 15\text{ sec}\) as seconds.

Exercise 14 – Which is longer?

Which is longer, \(3\text{ m } 5\text{ cm}\) or \(350\text{ cm}\)?

Exercise 15 – Trail walk

Ethan’s hiking trail is \(3\text{ km } 250\text{ m}\) long. He has walked \(1{,}800\text{ m}\). How many meters are left?

1,800 m walked? m left3 km 250 m
The whole trail is 3,250 m.

Exercise 16 – Milk bottle

Sofia has a \(2\text{ L}\) bottle of milk. She pours \(750\text{ mL}\) into pancake batter and \(450\text{ mL}\) into a smoothie. How many milliliters are left?

Exercise 17 – Movie time

Priya’s movie starts at the time on the clock (PM) and lasts \(2\text{ hr } 50\text{ min}\). What time does it end?

123456789101112
The clock shows 3:15.

Exercise 18 – Backpack weight

Diego’s backpack weighs \(3\text{ lb } 9\text{ oz}\). He adds a lunch that weighs \(12\text{ oz}\). Find the total weight in ounces. Then write it in pounds and ounces.

Exercise 19 – Ribbon cost

Ribbon costs $6 per meter. Noah buys \(250\text{ cm}\) of ribbon. How much does he pay?

Exercise 20 – Cookie baking

Jamal bakes cookies for \(1\text{ hr } 45\text{ min}\), lets them cool for \(25\text{ min}\), and decorates for \(50\text{ min}\). He starts at 9:30 AM. How many minutes does everything take, and what time does he finish?
