3rd Grade Multiplying by Multiples of 10 Worksheet (PDF)

3rd Grade math worksheet: Multiplying by Multiples of 10 – Maths PDF

This multiply tens worksheet for 3rd Grade covers multiplying by multiples of 10 (Common Core 3.NBT.A.3), with a free PDF to print.

These 22 problems practice multiplying one-digit numbers by multiples of 10 from 10 to 90 (Common Core 3.NBT.A.3). You will count ten-rods, skip count on a number line, and use basic facts to find products such as 9 × 80.

Later problems ask for missing factors, comparing products, and word problems about pencils, oranges, and stickers.

Multiply tens worksheet: exercises 1 to 10

Exercise 1 – Multiply by 20

Find \(3 \times 20\).

Exercise 2 – Count the rods

Each rod is worth 10.

Each rod stands for 10. Count the rods in all four boxes, then write the total value.

Exercise 3 – Skip count by 30

03060901201505 jumps of 30
Five jumps of 30.

The jumps are all the same size. Write the multiplication equation and the number where the fifth jump lands.

Exercise 4 – Multiply by 50

Each rod is worth 10.

Find \(4 \times 50\). The picture shows the groups.

Exercise 5 – Multiply by 80

Find \(3 \times 80\).

Exercise 6 – Multiply by 40

Find \(7 \times 40\).

Exercise 7 – Multiply by 20 again

Find \(8 \times 20\).

Exercise 8 – A bigger product

Find \(9 \times 30\).

Exercise 9 – Two zeros in the answer

Find \(8 \times 50\). Explain why the product ends in two zeros.

Exercise 10 – Use a basic fact

Use \(6 \times 7 = 42\) to find \(6 \times 70\).

Exercises 11 and up

Exercise 11 – Complete the tens

Complete: \(7 \times 6\text{ tens} = ?\text{ tens} = ?\).

Exercise 12 – Break apart 80

Write \(9 \times 80\) as \(9 \times 8 \times 10\) and find the product.

Exercise 13 – Missing factor

Find the missing number: \(4 \times ? = 320\).

Exercise 14 – Missing factor, first place

Find the missing number: \(? \times 60 = 420\).

Exercise 15 – Compare products

Compare \(6 \times 50\) and \(7 \times 40\). Write the two products and use the symbol for greater than, less than, or equal to in the answer.

Exercise 16 – Order the products

Write these in order from least to greatest product: \(4 \times 70\), \(9 \times 30\), \(5 \times 60\), \(8 \times 40\).

Exercise 17 – Pencil boxes

3030303030303030? pencils in 8 boxes
8 boxes with 30 pencils in each box.

The school store has 8 boxes with 30 pencils in each box. How many pencils are there in all?

Exercise 18 – Orange crates

A farmers market stand has 6 crates. Each crate holds 50 oranges. How many oranges are in the crates?

Exercise 19 – Water bottles

Each of 9 Little League teams gets 20 water bottles. How many water bottles is that in all?

Exercise 20 – Sticker packs

80808080808080? stickers in 7 packs
7 packs with 80 stickers in each pack.

Mei buys 7 packs of stickers. Each pack has 80 stickers. How many stickers does Mei buy?

Exercise 21 – Library shelves

A school library has 4 shelves with 60 books each and 3 shelves with 40 books each. How many books are on the 7 shelves?

Exercise 22 – Find the mistake

Noah says that 5 × 40 = 20 because 5 × 4 = 20. Find the correct product and explain his mistake.

Key facts behind this multiply tens worksheet

Key facts
  • A multiple of 10 is a whole number of tens, such as 30 (3 tens) or 80 (8 tens).
  • Multiply the basic fact first: 9 x 8 = 72, so 9 x 80 = 720.
  • The answer is that many tens, so the product ends in 0.
  • If the basic fact ends in 0, the product ends in two zeros: 5 x 60 = 300.
  • Skip counting by the multiple of 10 gives the same answer.

How to use this multiply tens worksheet
