Exercise 2 – Thirds and sixths
Use the bars to complete: \(\frac{1}{3}\) = \(\frac{?}{6}\).
Exercise 3 – Sixths and halves on lines
The dashed line shows the point \(\frac{3}{6}\). Write the halves fraction at the same point.
Exercise 4 – Fill the blank
Complete: \(\frac{3}{4}\) = \(\frac{?}{8}\).
Exercise 5 – Equal to one half
Circle every fraction that equals \(\frac{1}{2}\): \(\frac{2}{4}\), \(\frac{3}{6}\), \(\frac{3}{8}\), \(\frac{4}{8}\), \(\frac{2}{3}\).
Exercise 6 – Missing numerators
Write the missing number.
- \(\frac{1}{4} = \frac{?}{8}\)
- \(\frac{4}{8} = \frac{?}{2}\)
- \(\frac{4}{6} = \frac{?}{3}\)
Exercise 7 – Fractions equal to a whole
Write each fraction as a whole number.
- \(\frac{4}{4}\)
- \(\frac{6}{3}\)
- \(\frac{5}{1}\)
Exercise 8 – Whole number on the line
Point P is on a number line cut into halves. Write P as a fraction and as a whole number.
Exercise 9 – Whole numbers as fractions

- Write 2 as a fraction with denominator 4.
- Write 1 as a fraction with denominator 6.
Exercise 10 – Same denominator
Write <, >, or = in each blank.
- \(\frac{3}{8}\) ___ \(\frac{5}{8}\)
- \(\frac{6}{6}\) ___ \(\frac{4}{6}\)
- \(\frac{1}{3}\) ___ \(\frac{2}{3}\)
Exercises 11 and up
Exercise 11 – Same numerator with bars
Compare \(\frac{3}{4}\) and \(\frac{3}{8}\) using the bars. Write <, >, or =.
Exercise 12 – Same numerator
Write <, >, or = in each blank.
- \(\frac{2}{3}\) ___ \(\frac{2}{6}\)
- \(\frac{5}{8}\) ___ \(\frac{5}{6}\)
- \(\frac{1}{2}\) ___ \(\frac{1}{4}\)
Exercise 13 – Which point is greater
Point A is at \(\frac{1}{6}\) and point B is at \(\frac{4}{6}\). Which point shows the greater fraction? Write the comparison.
Exercise 14 – Order the fractions
Write from least to greatest: \(\frac{1}{2}\), \(\frac{1}{8}\), \(\frac{1}{3}\), \(\frac{1}{6}\).
Exercise 15 – Banana loaves
Two banana loaves are the same size. Maya cuts hers into 8 slices and eats 6 slices. Sofia cuts hers into 4 slices and eats 3 slices. Did they eat the same amount? Explain.
Exercise 16 – Who ran farther
Ethan ran \(\frac{3}{8}\) mile and Liam ran \(\frac{3}{4}\) mile on the same track. Who ran farther? Write a comparison.
Exercise 17 – Painted boards
Two boards have the same length. Jamal paints \(\frac{5}{6}\) of his board and Aisha paints \(\frac{3}{6}\) of hers.
- Who painted more?
- How many sixths more did that person paint?
Exercise 18 – Noah's rule
Noah says \(\frac{1}{4}\) is greater than \(\frac{1}{3}\) because 4 is greater than 3. Explain his mistake and write the correct comparison.
Exercise 19 – Scoops of rice
Two friends pour rice into pots for a school picnic. Priya’s scoop holds \(\frac{1}{3}\) cup and she pours 9 level scoops. Diego’s scoop holds \(\frac{1}{4}\) cup and he pours 12 level scoops. Write each amount as a fraction and as a whole number. Who poured more rice?
Exercise 20 – Ribbon contest
Three ribbons start with the same length. Priya cuts off \(\frac{2}{3}\) of hers, Diego cuts off \(\frac{3}{6}\), and Mei cuts off \(\frac{5}{6}\).
- Who cut off an amount equal to \(\frac{1}{2}\)?
- Write the three fractions from least to greatest.
Key facts behind this grade 3 equivalent fractions worksheet
- Equivalent fractions name the same amount and sit at the same point on a number line.
- Examples with denominators 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8: 1/2 = 2/4 = 4/8 and 2/3 = 4/6.
- A fraction with the same top and bottom number equals 1, and n/1 equals n.
