This worksheet helps fourth grade students practice writing, adding, and comparing decimals and fractions with denominators of 10 and 100. Also, grids, number lines, and money keep the place values clear and connect the work to real life.
There are 20 problems. The first six convert between fractions and decimals, the next two add tenths and hundredths, and the middle group uses number lines, place value, and comparing. Then, the last six are real situations with money, rain, a garden, notebook prices, a long jump, and school store change. Also, plan about 30 minutes, and sketch a grid for any problem that feels unclear.

Key facts behind this 4th grade decimals worksheet
- One tenth = 10 hundredths, so 3/10 = 30/100.
- Next, the first digit after the decimal point is tenths and the second is hundredths.
- To add tenths and hundredths, rewrite the tenths as hundredths first: 3/10 + 4/100 = 34/100 = 0.34.
- Then, compare decimals by writing them to the same place: 0.4 = 0.40, which is greater than 0.38.
- Money is hundredths of a dollar: a dime is $0.10 and a penny is $0.01.
Common mistakes with this 4th grade decimals worksheet
- Students write 6 dimes as 6 hundredths. Six dimes is 60 cents, so the fraction is six tenths, or sixty hundredths.
- Students add 4 and 25 and write 0.29 for four tenths plus twenty-five hundredths. Rewrite four tenths as forty hundredths first, then add.
- Students order decimals by the number of digits. Also, write each decimal with two places, such as 0.50 and 0.05, before you compare.
- Students pick the price with the bigger hundredths digit as the larger one. Instead, compare place by place from the tenths, not from the right.
Tips before you start the worksheet problems
- Rewrite every decimal with two places before you compare or order. That turns 0.7 into 0.70, which is easy to compare with 0.65.
- Use money to check your answers. Decimals with two places act like dollars and cents, so 0.34 is 34 cents.
- Teachers can start with a shaded hundred grid and ask students to write the same amount in three ways.

4th grade decimals worksheet: frequently asked questions
How do you write a fraction with denominator 10 as a fraction with denominator 100?
Multiply the top and bottom by 10. Two tenths becomes twenty hundredths, because 2 times 10 is 20 and 10 times 10 is 100. The value does not change, since you multiply by ten tenths, which equals 1. The decimal is 0.20.
How do you compare decimals like 5.3 and 5.29?
Write both with the same number of places: 5.30 and 5.29. The whole numbers match, so compare tenths: 3 is more than 2. So 5.30 is greater. More digits does not mean a bigger number.
How do you find change from a school store purchase?
Add the prices to find the total, then subtract from the money paid. Line up the decimal points just as you line up place values. For example, a 0.15 dollar pencil and a 0.30 dollar eraser cost 0.45 dollars.
