These 20 problems practice angles as turns, the one-degree angle, reading a protractor, sketching angles, and adding or subtracting angles to find an unknown. They match Common Core 4.MD.C.5, 4.MD.C.6, and 4.MD.C.7.
The last six problems are word problems about a door, a robot, a picture frame, and sprinklers. Write the degree sign with every angle.
Grade 4 · Common Core State Standards: 4.MD.C.5, 4.MD.C.6, 4.MD.C.7
Exercise 1 – Full turn
How many degrees are in a full turn around a circle?
Exercise 2 – Half turn
How many degrees are in a half turn?
Exercise 3 – Quarter turn
How many degrees are in a quarter turn?
Exercise 4 – Three-quarter turn
How many degrees are in a three-quarter turn?
Exercise 5 – Read the protractor
Read the measure of the angle.
Read the scale from 0.
Exercise 6 – A wider angle
Read the measure of the angle.
Read the scale from 0.
Exercise 7 – Classify angles
Write acute, right, or obtuse for each angle: \(35^{\circ}\), \(90^{\circ}\), \(120^{\circ}\), \(72^{\circ}\).
Exercise 8 – Angle between two rays
Two rays cross the protractor scale at 30° and 80°. Find the measure of the angle between them.
Both rays start at the center.
Exercise 9 – Sketch a 45° angle
Use a protractor to sketch an angle that measures \(45^{\circ}\). Label the vertex.
Exercise 10 – Sketch a 120° angle
Use a protractor to sketch an angle that measures \(120^{\circ}\).
Exercise 11 – Add two angles
Two angles share a ray and do not overlap. One measures \(40^{\circ}\) and the other measures \(25^{\circ}\). Find the measure of the combined angle.
Exercise 12 – Unknown angle in a right angle
A right angle is split into two angles. One measures \(38^{\circ}\). Find the other.
Parts add to 90°.
Exercise 13 – Unknown angle on a line
Two angles sit together on a straight line. One measures \(115^{\circ}\). Find the other.
A straight line is 180°.
Exercise 14 – Three parts
A big angle is made of three smaller angles that measure \(30^{\circ}\), \(45^{\circ}\), and \(25^{\circ}\). Find the big angle.
Exercise 15 – Clock hands
The minute hand of a clock starts at 12 and moves to the 4. Each number on a clock is \(30^{\circ}\) from the next. How many degrees does the minute hand turn?
Minute hand at 4.
Exercise 16 – Pizza slices
Maya’s pizza is cut into 8 equal slices. Each slice has an angle of \(45^{\circ}\) at the center. Maya eats 3 slices. What is the total angle of the slices she ate?
A pizza with 8 equal slices.
Exercise 17 – Opening a door
Jamal pushes a door open by \(70^{\circ}\). Then he pushes it another \(35^{\circ}\). What is the total angle the door has opened? Is it acute or obtuse?
Exercise 18 – Turning a robot
Ethan faces north. He turns his robot a quarter turn clockwise, then another \(45^{\circ}\). How many degrees has the robot turned? How many more degrees would make a half turn?
Exercise 19 – Picture frame brace
A corner of Priya’s frame is a right angle. A brace splits it into \(37^{\circ}\) and an unknown angle. A second brace splits the unknown angle into \(20^{\circ}\) and another unknown angle. Find both unknown angles.
Exercise 20 – Sprinklers
Diego has two sprinklers that together should water a full circle. Sprinkler A sweeps through \(210^{\circ}\). How many degrees must sprinkler B sweep? If B sweeps only \(90^{\circ}\), how many degrees are left dry?
