Geometry transformations quiz: 10 questions

Question 1
-5-4-3-2-112345-4-3-2-112345xy

Which transformation maps the blue triangle to the orange triangle?

Question 2
What is the image of (3, -5) after a reflection across the x-axis?

Question 3
What is the image of (2, 6) after a 90 degree counterclockwise rotation about the origin?

Question 4
A translation maps (1, 4) to (6, 0). What is the rule?

Question 5
-5-4-3-2-112345612345xyABCA′B′C′

The blue triangle is translated to the orange triangle. What is the rule?

Question 6
Which of these is NOT a rigid motion?

Question 7
A point is rotated 180 degrees about the origin. Which describes the image of (-4, 9)?

Question 8
Reflect (6, 1) across the line x = 2. What is the image?

Question 9
-11234567-11234567xyPQ

Point P(1, 2) is translated to Q(5, 5). What is the image of (0, 0) under the same translation?

Question 10
A point is reflected across the x-axis and then across the y-axis. Which single transformation does the same thing?

Remember

Remember
  • A translation moves every point the same distance in the same direction: (x, y) to (x + a, y + b).
  • A reflection across the x-axis sends (x, y) to (x, -y); across the y-axis it sends (x, y) to (-x, y).
  • A 90 degree counterclockwise rotation about the origin sends (x, y) to (-y, x).
  • Rigid motions preserve distance and angle measure, so the image is congruent to the preimage.
  • When transformations are combined, the order matters.
