Multiplication facts test answers: worked solutions
Question 1 – Number line hops [2 pts]
- Count by 6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36. The missing numbers are 18 and 30.
- Six hops of 6 land on 36: \(6 \times 6 = 36\).
Scoring: 1 point for both missing numbers; 1 point for 36.
Question 2 – Find the products [2 pts]
- \(9 \times 7 = 63\).
- \(8 \times 4 = 32\).
Scoring: 1 point for each correct product.
Question 3 – Find the quotients [2 pts]
- \(4 \times 9 = 36\), so \(36 \div 4 = 9\).
- \(9 \times 8 = 72\), so \(72 \div 9 = 8\).
Scoring: 1 point for each correct quotient.
Question 4 – Missing numbers [2 pts]
- \(7 \times 7 = 49\), so \(n = 7\).
- \(9 \times 6 = 54\), so \(n = 9\).
Scoring: 1 point for each correct value.
Question 5 – Fact family [3 pts]
- \(6 \times 8 = 48\). The top number is 48.
- \(6 \times 8 = 48\) and \(8 \times 6 = 48\).
- \(48 \div 6 = 8\) and \(48 \div 8 = 6\).
Scoring: 1 point for each part.
Question 6 – Sticker sheets [3 pts]
- \(63 \div 7 = n\).
- \(63 \div 7 = 9\), so there are 9 stickers on each sheet.
- \(7 \times 9 = 63\).
Scoring: 1 point for each part.
Question 7 – Rows of chairs [2 pts]
- \(8 \times 7 = 56\). There are 56 chairs.
- \(56 \div 7 = 8\) (or \(56 \div 8 = 7\)).
Scoring: 1 point for 56 chairs; 1 point for a correct related division fact.
Question 8 – Compare the products [2 pts]
Scoring: 1 point for both products; 1 point for the correct comparison.
Question 9 – Check the claim [2 pts]
- \(9 \times 6 = 54\), not 45. Diego used the wrong product.
- \(9 \times 5 = 45\), so \(45 \div 9 = 5\). The quotient is 5.
Scoring: 1 point for noting that 9 × 6 = 54; 1 point for the quotient 5.

Key facts behind this multiplication facts test answers
- A fact family uses three numbers: \(6, 7, and 42\) make \(6 \times 7 = 42\), \(7 \times 6 = 42\), \(42 \div 6 = 7\), and \(42 \div 7 = 6\).
- Division is finding a missing factor: 42 ÷ 7 asks 7 times what number is 42.
- Products of 5 end in 0 or 5, and the digits of a product of 9 add to 9.
- Doubles help with 2s and 4s. Add one more group to move from a known fact to the next one.
- Fluency means knowing the facts from memory, quickly and correctly.
