This divide practice worksheet for 4th Grade covers dividing with remainders (Common Core 4.NBT.B.6), with a free PDF to print.

These 20 problems practice dividing whole numbers with up to 4-digit dividends and 1-digit divisors (Common Core 4.NBT.B.6). You will use place value, area models, partial quotients, and remainders. The last six problems ask what to do with the remainder in real situations.

Grade 4 · Common Core State Standards: 4.NBT.B.6

Divide practice worksheet: exercises 1 to 10

Exercise 1 – Divide tens

Find \(80 \div 4\).

Exercise 2 – Divide hundreds

Find \(600 \div 3\).

Exercise 3 – Two-digit quotient

Find \(48 \div 3\).

Exercise 4 – Break apart

Find \(75 \div 5\).

Exercise 5 – Area model: 156 ÷ 4

30?4120?
The first partial quotient is 30.

The rectangle has height 4 and total area 156. The first part has width 30 and area 120. Find the second partial quotient and then \(156 \div 4\).

Exercise 6 – Remainder: 92 ÷ 6

Find \(92 \div 6\). Write the quotient with a remainder.

Exercise 7 – Dots and remainders

9 groups of 52 left
Groups of 5 and some left over.

The picture shows 47 dots. Write a division equation with a remainder for the picture.

Exercise 8 – Three-digit dividend

Find \(275 \div 5\).

Exercise 9 – Find partial quotients

??642018
Areas 420 and 18.

The rectangle has height 6. The areas of the two parts are 420 and 18. Find the width of each part and the quotient \(438 \div 6\).

Exercise 10 – Zero in the quotient

Find \(817 \div 4\). Write the quotient with a remainder.

Exercises 11 and up

Exercise 11 – Area model: 2,736 ÷ 4

???42,40032016
Partial areas of 2,736.

Use the area model to find \(2,736 \div 4\).

Exercise 12 – Divide 1,500

Find \(1,500 \div 6\).

Exercise 13 – Four digits by seven

Find \(3,284 \div 7\). Write the quotient with a remainder.

Exercise 14 – Divide 5,000

Find \(5,000 \div 8\).

Exercise 15 – Cookie bags

For a bake sale, Maya puts 138 cookies equally into 6 bags. How many cookies are in each bag?

Exercise 16 – Soccer teams

A Little League club has 83 players. Each team needs exactly 8 players. How many full teams can the club make, and how many players are left without a team?

Exercise 17 – Road trip days

Aisha’s family drives 1,260 miles in 5 days. They drive the same number of miles each day. How many miles do they drive each day?

5 days?????
1,260 miles split into 5 equal days.

Exercise 18 – Pencil boxes

The school store has 365 pencils. It packs 8 pencils in each box. How many full boxes can it make, and how many pencils are left?

Exercise 19 – Vans for the field trip

A van holds 7 people. A school needs to take 94 people on a field trip. How many vans are needed?

Exercise 20 – Markers for classes

Mei’s teacher buys 3 boxes with 248 markers in each box. She shares all the markers equally among 9 classes. How many markers does each class get, and how many markers are left over?

Key facts behind this divide practice worksheet

Key facts
  • Dividend ÷ divisor = quotient with a remainder; the remainder is less than the divisor.
  • Partial quotients: divide easy parts of the dividend and add the results.
  • An area model for division starts with the area (dividend) and one side (divisor).
  • Check: quotient × divisor + remainder = dividend.
  • Think about the story to decide what to do with a remainder.

How to use this divide practice worksheet

Work through the exercises in order: they go from simple to challenging. Write every step on paper, then compare with the solutions page and redo any exercise you missed the next day.
