  1. Shade the bottom bar so it shows the same amount as the top bar. (1 point)
  2. Complete: \(\frac{1}{2} = \frac{?}{8}\) (1 point)

Question 2 – Same point on number lines [3 pts]

013/401
Fourths on top and eighths on the bottom.
  1. Mark the same point as \(\frac{3}{4}\) on the bottom line. (1 point)
  2. Write the eighths fraction for that point. (1 point)
  3. Write \(\frac{1}{2}\) as a fraction with denominator 8. (1 point)

Question 3 – Whole numbers as fractions [3 pts]

  2. \(\frac{4}{6}\) ___ \(\frac{2}{6}\) (1 point)

Question 5 – Same numerator [3 pts]

Two bars of the same length.
  1. Which bar has more shaded? Write the fraction for each bar. (1 point)
  2. Write a comparison using <, >, or =. (1 point)
  3. Explain why the bar with more shading has bigger parts. (1 point)

Question 6 – Circle the equal fraction [1 pt]

Circle the fraction that equals \(\frac{3}{4}\): \(\frac{3}{8}\), \(\frac{6}{8}\), \(\frac{4}{6}\), \(\frac{3}{6}\).

Question 7 – Bike rides [2 pts]

Priya rides her bike \(\frac{5}{6}\) mile and Diego rides \(\frac{5}{8}\) mile.

  1. Who rides farther? (1 point)
  2. Write a comparison with <, >, or =. (1 point)

Key facts behind this grade 3 equivalent fractions test

Key facts
  • Equivalent fractions name the same amount and sit at the same point on a number line.
  • Examples with denominators 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8: 1/2 = 2/4 = 4/8 and 2/3 = 4/6.
  • A fraction with the same top and bottom number equals 1, and n/1 equals n.
  • Same denominator: the greater numerator makes the greater fraction.
  • Same numerator: the smaller denominator makes the greater fraction.

How to use this grade 3 equivalent fractions test
