About this book

A six-year-old does not need long explanations. Each chapter of this book asks a simple question, such as how to count on from any number or what a ten is, and answers it with pictures, ten frames and number lines.

Every chapter opens with the skills it builds; in Tens and Ones, for instance: understand a ten, understand 10, 20, 30, and the other tens, read the blocks. A Key facts box sums up what to remember. Most of the 76 lesson sections of the book are written as questions a student would ask, such as What is a ten?

For a child in first grade, a parent teaching at home, or a tutor looking for a clear year plan for six- and seven-year-olds. Pair it with the Grade 1 Math Worksheets with Answers to practice each chapter right after reading it.
