About this book

Third graders meet multiplication and division as two sides of the same idea. The book explains equal groups, the properties of multiplication and the facts within 100, then gives fractions a full chapter of their own before comparing them.

Every chapter opens with the skills it builds; in Two-Step Word Problems and Patterns, for instance: understand a two-step word problem, solve a two-step problem with a letter for the unknown, understand an arithmetic pattern. A Key facts box sums up what to remember. Most of the 80 lesson sections of the book are written as questions a student would ask, such as How can estimation tell you if an answer makes sense?

For a third grader learning the multiplication facts, a parent who wants to follow the year step by step, or a tutor. Pair it with the Grade 3 Math Worksheets with Answers to practice each chapter right after reading it.
